The Department of Philosophy at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time sabbatical replacement position, subject to budgetary approval. Candidates should have a PhD in Philosophy or one nearing completion, and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and a deep interest in the history of philosophy. The course load for the year is 2/3.The most useful combination of courses to be taught include: a first year introductory course in philosophy based on Plato’s Republic; a second year historical introduction to Ethics; a year-long upper level course in Ancient Philosophy; and an upper-level course in Environmental Ethics, or a course in the successful candidate’s area of research.
The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and will commence July 1, 2012 and end June30, 2013. St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution whose roots are in the faith and tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. With a full-time enrolment of 2,500, its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the University holds four Canada Research Chairs.
Our department has needs in medieval philosophy and ethics (e.g., meta-ethics, feminist ethics, deontology). The successful candidate will specialize in either medieval philosophy or ethics (with a strong AOC in the other), will have an historical philosophical approach, and a broad familiarity with the history of philosophy.
A PhD in philosophy or imminent completion is required, though candidates at the ABD stage will also be considered. The Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 10 month Limited Term Appointment at the Assistant Professor/Lecturer level, effective August 1, 2012. Ability to teach Computing Ethics, as well as strength in History of Philosophy, would be assets. The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with some limited graduate student supervision and committee work. The Department of Philosophy at Wilfrid Laurier University – Waterloo campus invites applications for a tenure-track position in Moral Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2012, subject to budgetary approval. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four undergraduate-level courses per year, to maintain an active research agenda and to engage in academic service. The Research Fellow will be employed on the Australian Research Council Funded project entitled 'Egalitarianism and Climate Justice'. The investigators on the project are Garrett Cullity, Iwao Hirose, Simon Keller and Jeremy Moss. The Research Fellow will be based at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Jeremy Moss.
The aim of the project is to provide a new framework for how to fairly distribute the costs of responding to climate change and to contribute to the understanding of a range of moral issues associated with climate change. Topics covered by the project include: models of how to distribute the burdens of climate change between and within nations, egalitarian discussions of climate change, understanding climate skepticism and the harms caused by climate change. The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the research of these or other related topics.
The incumbent will be expected to produce independent research, collaborate with the CIs where appropriate and to assist with the goals of the project. The incumbent may also be required to apply for or assist with funding applications.

The Department of Philosophy, in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta, has been authorized to search for a Tier I (Senior) Canada Research Chair in Epistemology and Metaphysics, broadly construed to include philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science (natural, cognitive, life, mathematical) as well. We invite applications from exceptional scholars with a strong record of research and teaching in any of these areas, whatever their theoretical or methodological commitments. Other areas of research and teaching specialization or competence are open. A PhD in Philosophy, or equivalent, is required.
The successful applicant will be nominated by the University for a Canada Research Chair and will also be appointed as a regular senior faculty member. The Canada Research Chairs Programme was established by the Canadian Government to foster world-class research excellence. As stated in the Terms of Reference http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/, "Tier I Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders" in their fields. Nominations for Canada Research Chairs are subject to review by the CRC Secretariat, and appointment as a Canada Research Chair is conditional upon their approval.
Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate supervision and normal administrative committee work, as well as maintaining an original and innovative research programme. However, the teaching load for a Canada Research Chair will be two one-term courses per year instead of the four one-term courses per year for regular faculty. The appointment will be with tenure, at the level of either full Professor or senior Associate Professor.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and, in the case of Canada Research Chairs, carries a supplement that may be taken as taxable salary or tax free research grant or a combination thereof. The benefit package is comprehensive.

This position is subject to budgetary approval and need, and is a full-time, limited term appointment, normally at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning January 1, 2012 and ending May 31, 2012. As this is a one term appointment, successful candidates will normally be expected to teach three courses. Individuals holding limited-term appointments may be reappointed, given continued funding and need, as well as satisfactory job performance. Together, this initial appointment and subsequent reappointments may not exceed a span of three consecutive academic years.

This is a full-time, tenure-line position and begins fall term 2012.
The professor will teach undergraduate courses in STS. The candidate should be able to teach effectively across the range of courses required for the STS major, including either semester of the sophomore-level historical survey and the senior research seminar. STS also participates broadly in the university's core curriculum and the successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to this broader aspect of university education.
Standard teaching assignment is three courses per semester.
Other duties include continuation of a strong program of research and publication, directing senior theses, advising students, and participation in departmental and university governance.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in History of Science or an allied discipline. A year or more of teaching and research experience beyond the Ph. D. is preferred. We seek a candidate with training and a record of research in issues relating to technology and society. The successful candidate will be able to continue several courses already in our curriculum, such as Technology and Culture, and Science and Politics, but will have the freedom to develop new courses in his or her own areas of special interest.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence. An understanding of and a genuine commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education is essential.

We are seeking an innovative leader and established scholar in any area of Philosophy of Science, broadly construed. The successful candidate will play a key role in the academic leadership of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy (http://www.rotman.uwo.ca).
