Canadian Philosophical Association Announces Congress 2026 at Dalhousie University
The Canadian Philosophical Association (CPA) is pleased to announce that our annual 2026 congress will be held in person at Dalhousie University in Halifax, 6-9 June 2026.
As many are aware, the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) is not organizing a Congress 2026 event. At the CPA's AGM at George Brown College this past June, and in responses to the online survey, a clear majority of CPA members indicated enthusiasm for an in-person meeting in 2026.
"We are grateful to our co-hosts, the Dalhousie Philosophy Department, and to Dalhousie Conference Services for making this meeting possible," said Paul Bartha, 2025-26 President of the CPA. "The decision to organize our annual meeting independently of Congress does not signify any type of break with FHSS. An independent meeting is the only possibility for 2026."
Collaborating Associations
Three other FHSS member organizations will join in Halifax:
- CSHPS (Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science, meeting 4-6 June)
- CSHPM (Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Mathematics, meeting 4-6 June)
- CSSPE (Canadian Society for the Study of Practical Ethics, meeting 7-9 June)
The overlap will enable the enjoyment of many benefits associated with Congress, including some jointly organized sessions.
