Job Posting:  Zoom Hosts

The Canadian Philosophical Association (CPA) is seeking Zoom Hosts (15) to join our 2024 conference delivery team. The CPA’s 2024 hybrid meeting will take place from June 18 – 21, 2024.  

Working with the Executive Director, Zoom Hosts will be responsible for providing Zoom support for a pre-determined set of online session (half/day and full day positions available) during the week of June 18-21. The Host will ensure the Zoom room is open and ready for the presenter(s) and participants. The Host will monitor the participant list, waiting room, control muting, interact in chat (minimally, as required), provide basic Zoom support and overall ensure a smooth and successful experience for presenters and participants.

This paid hourly position is ideal for university graduate or undergraduate students in philosophy or related disciplines who are interested in supporting an academic conference. Session assignments can be made based on area of interest.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Use own workstation to log into Zoom and perform hosting duties using Zoom application. (All Zoom and session details will be provided in advance.)
• Support presenters as required in session (share screen), open Zoom room, mute people as needed, answer questions and interact with people in the chat as required (minimal), monitor participant list, allow people to unmute if needed, and be alert for inappropriate content in the Zoom room.

Period: June 18 – 21, 2024  

Location: Remote, using your own computer 

Hours: Sessions are scheduled between 9:00am – 19:00 ET. Shifts can be flexible, based on availability. Full (6hr) and half-day shifts (3hr) available.

Rate: $20 per hour; CPA Conference registration fee paid/reimbursed (if applicable).

 Qualifications:

• Proficient with Zoom and its common features, such as security controls, muting, breakout rooms, spotlighting, chat, etc.
• Can troubleshoot basic Zoom problems.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset 

 Requirements: Must provide your own computer and have access to stable internet connection.
