Call for Submissions: Annual Meeting of The Canadian Philosophical Association

The Canadian Philosophical Association invites submissions of papers, abstracts, and symposium proposals for our 2027 annual meeting. This year’s meeting is an independent event.
The CPA meeting, held from 31 May – 3 June 2027, will feature concurrent colloquia and symposia, and plenary keynotes. Please check the congress website for additional updates.
The program committee anonymously referees both abstracts and full papers, and will consider proposals for symposia. We welcome submissions that engage with all philosophical traditions — Anglo-American, African, East-Asian, European, Hebraic, Himalayan, Indigenous, Islamic, Latin American, and South-Asian. The CPA is committed to organizing an accessible and inclusive meeting.
We accept three types of submission. You may:
- Submit a full paper of no more than 3000 words (exclusive of abstract [required; 100 words maximum], notes, and bibliography). Papers accepted in this manner will be discussed by a commentator immediately after they are presented and considered for essay prizes. They will be scheduled for fifty-five-minute sessions (forty minutes for the presentation, ten for the commentary, five for questions).
- Submit an abstract of no more than 700 words (excluding bibliography). Papers accepted in this manner will neither be discussed by a commentator nor eligible for an essay prize. They will be scheduled for thirty-minute sessions (twenty-five minutes for the presentation, five for questions).
- Submit a symposium proposal of no more than 800 words (excluding bibliography). This must include: (i) a description of the topic of the symposium, which clearly explains its relevance; and (ii) a list of the speakers who have confirmed attendance, together with a brief description of the ideas each of them will set forth. Symposia run for two hours and fifty-five minutes and must include at least three speakers. No more than one symposium proposal per organizer will be considered. Submissions that include presentations in French or that bring together speakers from more than one region of Canada are strongly encouraged.
Participants can appear in the program in one primary role at most, either as a speaker in a symposium or as the presenter of a paper. However, all participants are encouraged to act as commentors in full paper sessions and/or to chair other colloquia.
All submissions will be managed through Google forms. Upon submission, you will be prompted to choose the two areas of philosophy that best fit your work.

A number of essay prizes are awarded by the Association for work submitted for the annual congress: two faculty essay prizes (one for tenured faculty, one for non-tenured faculty) and up to three student essay prizes (with at least one prize awarded for an essay composed in each official language). In a forthcoming issue of Dialogue: Canadian Philosophical Review, prize winners from the 2027 congress will be announced, and a short list of exceptional congress papers that have been vetted by journal reviewers will be published.
