Overview

This is a unique opportunity to do philosophical outreach work supporting a fast-growing non-profit! You will support the organization of Coupes Éthiques in French-speaking regions (often organized by partner universities), and help with the organization of a National Coupe Éthique. Working alongside Ethics Bowl Canada’s Co-General Managers, you will support the day-to-day activities of the organization, including: overseeing committees, aiding in fundraising and grant-writing efforts, creating educational and promotional material, designing and maintaining the French side of the Ethics Bowl Canada website, and other duties as determined by the Board and Executive of Ethics Bowl Canada.

Duties / Responsibilities

Coupe Éthique Event Organization

• Expand the Coupe Éthique network by recruiting new organizations to host events and reaching out to high schools to participate in the event,
• Recruit and train volunteers for Coupe Éthique events,
• Support the organization of 2-5 Coupe Éthique events in February, by answering questions from organizers and helping connect them to teachers,
• Budget for events as necessary,
• Book venues, order catering, schedule sessions and volunteers for events,
• Compile event reports, post event updates on the Ethics Bowl website.

Support Ethics Bowl Canada

• Work with the Ethics Bowl Canada Executive team,
• Schedule board and committee meetings and create agendas and meeting minutes,
• Serve on committees, such as Case Development, Rules and Regulations, and Fundraising,
• Aid in fundraising efforts by researching potential donors, sponsors, and grantmakers, and aiding in grant writing and creating proposal packages,
• Create and maintain content for the Ethics Bowl Canada website in French,
• Oversee the translation of philosophical educational resources from English to French,
• In collaboration with the Executive and the Board, create a strategic vision for Ethics Bowl Canada, and increase Ethics Bowl Canada’s reach into Francophone communities.

Qualifications/Skills

Successful candidates will have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of philosophy, such as a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy,
• Fluency in English and French,
• Demonstrated experience organizing or coordinating events or managing projects, or a comparable combination of education and experience,
• Ability to work with programs such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Microsoft Office programs
• Willingness to learn how to use and maintain a Wordpress website
• Excellent communication skills,
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and excel as part of a team.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Experience working in a non-profit environment,
• Experience working with secondary and post-secondary education, and an understanding of the education landscape in Canada,
• Demonstrable experience fundraising, donor stewardship and grant-writing,
• Demonstrable experience in graphic design, video editing, or both,
• Experience forming, securing and maintaining partnerships between organizations and institutions,
• Ability and willingness to travel within Canada for events and outreach.

Preference will be given to candidates who are enrolled in a graduate program or post-doctoral fellowship and are eligible for a Mitacs grant. Eligible candidates will be employed at the university they are enrolled at, while supporting the work of Ethics Bowl Canada.

Employment conditions

• Compensation: $32/hr
• 8-16 hours weekly, flexible schedule. Hours conditional on workload and available funding.
• Variable working hours, often during the weekends and outside of regular (9:00am?5:00pm) office hours.
• Most of the work is done remotely
