CPA26 — Pathways, Politics and Possibilities: Rethinking Philosophy as Resistance
The Canadian Philosophical Association (CPA) is pleased to announce a featured plenary session at its 2026 Annual Congress, taking place 6–9 June 2026 at the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building, Dalhousie University, Halifax.
This plenary session brings together high school philosophy teacher Tamara Ray and Dr. Laura Mae Lindo, assistant professor of philosophy, alongside student researchers Alacia Tshilombo, Avri Jeffcott, and Keyana Mullings. The session explores the intersection of philosophy education, race, and research, focusing on how engaging Black youth in philosophical dialogue can open pathways to understanding identity, justice, and social change.
Drawing on classroom practice and scholarly inquiry, the session examines how philosophy helps young people engage critically with experiences of race and racism, empowering them to shape their own narratives and envision new futures. By bridging theory and practice, the session offers congress participants a unique opportunity to reflect on philosophy's role in fostering critical thinking, educational growth, and collective action.
