Funded MA & PhD Places in Philosophy at CEU Vienna
Central European University (CEU) in Vienna — accredited in both the United States and Europe — is now accepting applications for its MA and PhD programs in Philosophy, beginning September 2027.

MA Programs
CEU's MA in Philosophy runs one or two years, with three optional specializations:
- Philosophy and Public Affairs
- Philosophy of Nature, Science and Society
- Philosophy of Mind and Cognition
A non-degree Advanced Certificate is also available, in either Political Thought or Ethics and Political Philosophy.
PhD Program
CEU welcomes PhD applications in areas aligned with the department's research strengths. Details on faculty and current research are available here. One notable project, Knowledge in Crisis, is led by Tim Crane and funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
Financial Aid
All PhD places are fully funded: tuition waiver plus a monthly stipend for 48 months. MA students are considered for merit-based financial aid (tuition discount and stipend) on a competitive basis. Applicants who apply by the 15 October 2026 deadline for an eligible MA program and clear the first stage of admission may also apply for the Open Society Scholarship.

CEU's Philosophy Department is internationally recognized as one of the top analytic philosophy programs in continental Europe, with faculty published in leading journals and presses worldwide. The department is distinctive in combining analytic, continental, and historical approaches, and offers small, interactive classes alongside a weekly colloquium series featuring international speakers.
