Co-editors of Dialogue: Canadian Philosophical Review / Revue canadienne de philosophie, the Canadian Philosophical Association’s journal

The Canadian Philosophical Association invites applications for the positions of Anglophone and of Francophone Editors of Dialogue: Canadian Philosophical Review.

Dialogue is the scholarly journal of our Association. Its readership includes all members of the Association as well as subscribers throughout the English and French speaking worlds of philosophy.

The new editors will succeed Luc Langlois and Susan Dimock, who have held the positions respectively since 2012 and 2013. The term of the appointment is for four years, renewable.

Cognizant of the great changes that have occurred in academic publishing in general, and in philosophical publishing in particular, the Association is looking for editors who are willing to work with the Executive to devise and implement over the course of their tenures a new format for Dialogue, one which would allow it to distinguish itself more clearly within the changing landscape of philosophical journals, while at the same time living up to its name as providing Canadian and international philosophers with opportunities to engage in “dialogue”, in particular in dialogue between philosophers writing in French and in English.

Duties of the Editor will continue to include the management of the manuscript submission and review process; the occasional solicitation of manuscripts or proposals for special issues; the communication (with the help of a modestly paid Assistant Editor) of acceptances, rejections, or requests for revision and resubmission to authors, with a view to the timely publication of the Journal. A professional allowance of $5000 a year is intended to defray the co-Editors’ expenses.

The new Editor will be expected to try to negotiate with her or his home institution some modest amount of financial and / or logistical support for the Journal.

The commitment of time required to fulfill these duties will average five to ten hours per week.

The next Editor’s four-year term will commence as soon as possible.

Applicants should submit a current curriculum vitae along with a statement of goals and qualifications for this position as soon as possible to administration@acpcpa.ca with the subject heading “Dialogue Search Committee".
